Love&Rage

Ghost Town Prisoner Support (GTPS) is a prisoner solidarity project based out of the Ghost Town neighborhood of Oakland, Califas.

The project is organized horizontally and all decisions are made as a collective. GTPS engages with prisoner solidarity and prison abolition projects based in the so-called San Francisco Bay Area on stolen Ohlone Land

Our collective work is to show up for prisoners through letter writing. Letter writing is a radical act of compassion for folks who have been caught up in the system. Letter writing is a political act of resistance to the prison industrial complex (PIC). Our focus as autonomous individuals in this project is the abolition of all prisons.

We meet the second and fourth Thursday of each month to write letters prisoners with comrades and other folks interested in this work. As a collective we provide prisoner lists, paper, pens, pictures, cards, envelopes, and stamps. We encourage people to build long-term relationships with prisoners by writing to them on a regular basis. We write in comradery with folks who write an occasional letter or card to prisoners.

A few times a year, we organize fundraising events to support prisoners with commissary or to help folks get back on their feet after being released from prison.
